Faldo Calls Vietnam ‘Visually Stunning’

March 2016 — Chances are that if you’re coming to play golf in central Vietnam, you’re coming from a great distance. How do you handle jet lag? Is there a way to beat the heat? We thought it would be fun to ask six-time Major winner and Laguna Lang Co Golf Club designer Sir Nick Faldo those questions and more. How did he answer? Read on …

Q: To steal a line from Johnny Cash, you’ve been everywhere, man. From what you’ve seen of Vietnam, how does it stack up against other countries you’ve visited? How do you describe it to friends?

A: I think it’s visually stunning and unique, with so many different environments. It’s very much worth seeing.

Q: You’re on the road — or in the air — a lot. How do you manage jet lag? What works best for you?

A: I don’t do so well. As I get older, jet lag is the hardest thing. You need to rest when you have to. Sometimes it’s difficult to sleep in the night, but you just have to keep resting.

Q: Let’s say you’re about to go tee it up on a rather tropical day. What do you eat/drink before, during and after such a round?

A: When I’m in Asia, sometimes in the afternoon I’m wacked. You have to drink a lot of water, and eat good healthy food.

Q: Speaking of food, do you have a favorite item here in Vietnam? Are you a pho fan? If so, do you prefer it with beef or chicken?

A: I’m a big fan of the fusion thing, and I love all Vietnamese noodles.

Q: If you had to give one piece of advice to a person playing Laguna Lang Co for the first time, what would it be?

A: Biggest advice would be to bring a lot of golf balls, because this course can trip you up Your Domain Name.
